” Sometimes my Insta feed is full of 1 type of beauty. So here’s a reminder that diversity is a gift”.
In my previous blog post, I talked about my new project: ‘Why We Move!”
This is a series of interviews with health first fitness pros who believe in finding the joy in movement and setting NON-appearance based goals.
First up is the formidable Lauren Azor – a Yoga teacher, Acroyoga teacher, Thai massage therapist and handstand queen who spends much of her time upside down😉
I love Lauren’s very honest and insightful responses. Lauren listens to her body and doesn’t exercise according to any schedule but rather by how feels.
Q.1 What do you define as ‘joyful movement’?
Anything which makes my soul happy, and brings a smile to my face – normally something upside down for me!
Q.2 What is your earliest memory of moving for fun and pure joy?
Running round my garden as a child with my parents and sister .
Q.3 Do you feel you listen to your body as far as movement is concerned or do you follow a specific programme or schedule?
I listen 100% – I have no schedule – I tend to do something everyday but sometimes that’s a stroll, or some yin yoga, other times it’s a handstand class or a run/cycle, in addition to the classes I teach.
Q.4 If exercise had ZERO impact on how your body looks, would your exercise choices be different? .
Potentially less running.
Q.5 Why do you move? (What motivates you and how does movement make you feel?)
I’m at a stage now where I find it hard not to move. I always feel better for doing something, and nothing (apart from occasionally running) really feels like a chore. A few years ago this wasn’t the case, and I often reflect back how my attitude has changed since I found activities I do for pure pleasure. I love my job, training handstands, and am also sea swimming at the moment which makes me feel so alive.
A massive thank you to Lauren for her time and contribution. You can find her classes online and outdoors in Brighton. Contact her via @laurenacroyoga for more details.
